Pharmacy Tech Requirements in Delaware

Every US state chooses its own way to regulate pharmacy technicians. Of the 51 jurisdictions we track, 33 use registration, 14 issue a full license, 3 tie the state credential to national certification, and 1 requires no state credential at all. Delaware stands alone in that last group: it is the only jurisdiction we track with no technician credential at all.

Delaware asks for no national exam at all. Plenty of technicians here still earn certification voluntarily — a national credential strengthens job applications and moves with you if you relocate to a stricter state.

Delaware does not license, register, or certify pharmacy technicians. The Board of Pharmacy states it 'issues licenses to pharmacists and pharmacy interns' plus facility licenses - technicians are not among them, and 24 Del. C. Ch. 25 contains no technician registration requirement. Statutory definitions: a 'pharmacy technician' is 'an individual working in a pharmacy practice site who, under the immediate supervision of a pharmacist, assists in pharmacy activities, as permitted by the rules and regulations of the Board, that do not require the professional judgment of a pharmacist' (24 Del. C. Sec. 2502(32)); a 'certified pharmacy technician' is one 'certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or other entity approved by the Board' (Sec. 2502(4)) - a voluntary status that unlocks additional duties (e.g., administering immunizations for nationally certified technicians with accredited training and current CPR). Employers set hiring/training standards; permitted tasks are governed by Board regulation 24 DE Admin Code 2500. HB 399 (amending Title 24 Ch. 25, effective provisions current in 2026) expands pharmacist duties and lets pharmacists delegate CLIA-waived testing tasks to supervised technicians, but does not create technician registration. Because technicians hold no state credential, there is no technician lookup; Delaware's DELPROS portal (https://delpros.delaware.gov/OH_VerifyLicense) verifies pharmacists and other Board licensees only.
